Mortal Instruments SeriesOver March break I read four books, all in the mortal instruments series.
Mr. Kemp told us that the books we're reading should challenge us, make us ask questions. The question that was a reoccurring one, and almost like an underlying theme is: What is reality? In the book, the main character Clary lives a seemingly normal life but one night it's all ripped away from her when her mother is kidnapped, revealing secrets kept and lies told. So what is reality? Is it what you believe, what you know to be true? What do you know, really, and how you know it's true? We believe what we know is true, what we can back up by fact: my name is Emily because it says so on my birth certificate. |
On the flip side of that, when we were little kids we believed in Santa Claus, all because our parents said we should, because they told us it was true. Then they turned around and said "Just kidding, Santa Claus is a lie"
In this book, I found a quote that went along with this theme I found a quote. "I told you the truth as I saw it, we all tell the truth as we see it do we not? Did you ever stop to wonder what untruths might have been in the tale told to you, that served their purpose in telling it? Do you truly think you know each and every secret of your past?" |
